Our clients are both busy medical professionals, so when they purchased this beautiful Victorian house and were planning a large refurbishment project, they wanted an elegant Audio Visual system around the house that was simple to use but also sounded great. Working with the clients electrician and project manager, we proposed a system of Smart Home control keypads in the main rooms that would give simple push button access to music and video sources stored away in a centralised rack area.
High quality ceiling speakers provide audiophile sound quality to 8 rooms and video sources (eg. SKY Q and BluRay movies) are distributed using a 4k UHD video matrix using the infrastructure Cat6 wiring that runs through the whole property. The outside entertainment patio area has waterproof garden speakers and as the property is quite large, wi-fi is handled around the rooms via a mesh network solution from Ruckus. The Ruckus access points provide seamless roaming capabilities through the whole house as well as external weather proof access points that provide coverage across the extensive lawns.
Due to the remote location, the incoming wi-fi speed was extremely slow (below half a Meg) so we installed an externally mounted 4G antenna that points to the local mobile phone mast. A specialist 4G router allows the clients to now get speeds in excess of 50 Meg and a simple monthly plan is in place using a Sim card with one of the big mobile phone suppliers - simple and effective.
Power dropouts are also a major problem because of the remote location - to get around this issue we installed a smart battery backup system (UPS) into the equipment cabinet that instantly supplies mains power in the event of a short or medium power failure. This results in fewer issues for the clients and the confidence that the system will always be working when they need it.
